Exploding healthcare costs

In 2006 the avearge yearly healthcare insurance premium is $4500 for a single person and more than $11,000 for a family. Nationally, healthcare expenditure is in trillions of dollars at more than 16% of the national gross domestic product. Even at such a high healthcare expenditure not everyone has access to healthcare services. There are more than 46 million uninsured people in US and most of these people rely on emergency rooms for their treatment for common ailments.

The yearly healthcare cost is more than the combined cost we spend on other basic necessities of life; food, clothing, water, gas, electricity, and now a days inlcuding phone.
